Musaemura Zimunya (1949-)

Musaemura Zimunya is a poet based in Virginia. Born in Mutare of Southern Rhodesia, now known as Zimbabwe, he studied at Kent University in the United Kingdom, and after independence attended the University of Zimbabwe. His poems were published while he was still in school. His early poetry was imaginative and had a great appreciation for nature. His collection Thought Tracks, published in 1982, focuses on a generation that feels marginalized and disregarded after colonialism. Other collections, Kingfisher and Jinkya and Other Poems published in 1982 focus more on love and nature. Perfect Poise published in 1993, and Selected Poems published in 1995, representing both his earlier and later work, showing the contrast between lyricism and bitter edge.
