Ezra Pound (1885-1972)

Ezra Pound was a poet and editor, born in Hailey Idaho, who spent much of his life abroad in Italy. He was particularly influential and helpful to the work of Robert Frost, Marianne Moore, William Carlos Williams, and T. S. Eliot, among many others. Pound notably provided extensive notes on Eliot’s The Waste Land, reducing the manuscript by about half.

Pound studied at the University of Pennsylvania before earning a degree from Hamilton College in 1905. His own published works include The Cantos, an 800-page epic poem written from 1917-62, Ripostes (1912), and Hugh Selwyn Mauberly (1920).
