Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill (1952- )

A prominent poet in the Irish language, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill writes about Irish themes, such as ancient myths and details of modern life. The poet spoke Gaelic at home, then studied Irish and English at University College. She purposefully chooses to write in Irish to promote the acceptance of the language; her works have been translated into English, Italian, Japanese, and Turkish. Ní Dhomhnaill has notably written Selected Poems: Rogha Danta (1988), Pharaoh’s Daughter (1990), and The Astrakhan Cloak (1992).
