Okogbule Wonodi was a Nigerian poet born on August 27, 1936 in Oromineke, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He was educated in Nigeria before moving to the United States in 1965 to receive his MA in English and Creative Writing at the University of Iowa. Wonodi held several jobs over the course of his life. At various points, he served as a teacher, a principal, a university lecturer, a school administrator, a newspaper publisher, a businessman, and a politician. Wonodi was also the first Ikwerre poet to have his work published. His poetry was featured in literary magazines such as Transition, and he published three collections of poetry: Icheke and Other Poems (1964), Two Poems for Leaders of Thought (1967), and Dust of Exile (1971). Wonodi died in 2001.
