Ian Watson

Ian Watson is a British science fiction writer and poet. Watson was born in England on April 20, 1943, and attended Balliol College, Oxford, where he earned a first class Honours degree in English Literature in 1963 and a research degree in English and French 19th Century Literature in 1965. Watson worked as an English lecturer in Tanzania from 1965 to 1967 and in Tokyo, Japan from 1967 to 1970. In 1970, he joined the faculty of Birmingham Polytechnic in Birmingham, England, where he taught Futures Studies until 1976, when he became a full-time writer. Watson has written over 30 novels and over 10 short story collections, mainly in the genre of science fiction. Several of his works have been finalists for the Hugo and Nebula Awards. Watson is also a poet, and his first poetry collection, The Lexicographer’s Love Song, was published in 2001.
