Ikechukwu Obialo Azuonye

Ikechukwu Obialo Azuonye is a Nigerian-born British psychiatrist, writer, and poet. Azuonye was born on April 17, 1949, in Okigwe, Nigeria, and received a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University Nigeria Medical School, Enugu, in 1976. His poem “Mass in G Minor” was published in the 47th issue of the literary magazine Transition in 1975 while he was still a medical student. Azuonye moved to the United Kingdom in 1979 and was appointed a consultant psychiatrist at St. Augustine’s Hospital, Canterbury, in 1985. Since this initial appointment, Azuonye has worked as a psychiatrist at various hospitals and as a senior lecturer at several medical schools. In addition to publishing articles in medical journals, Azuonye has also written two books about American politics and society as well as numerous poems.
