Lorna Goodison (1947-)

Lorna Goodison is a painter and poet born in Kingston, Jamaica. She attended the Jamaica School of Art and the School of the Art Students League in New York. In 2017, she was appointed the role of poet laureate of Jamaica in 2017.

Goodison’s poetry collections include Tamarind Season (1980), Traveling Mercies (2001), Supplying Salt and Light (2013), and Collected Poems (2017), among others; she has also published the short story collections Fool-fool Rose is Leaving Labour-in-Vain Savannah (2005) and By Love Possessed (2011), among many others. Her work is also featured in many anthologies.
