About

Matthew Turner joined Rogers, Coleridge & White in 2012 working for founder Deborah Rogers until she passed away in 2014. He has a BA in English Literature and an MA in Creative Writing. Matthew assists Peter Straus and is also curating his own list of non-fiction writers, novelists and poets.

Matthew Turner's Preferences

In non-fiction, Matt is looking for writing about society and culture, as well as memoir, hybrid and playful narrative non-fiction. In fiction he favours emotionally intelligent storytelling lead by voice, propelled by character and with a vividly realised landscape. Writers he has worked with have won or been nominated for the Costa Book Awards, the Women’s Prize for Fiction, the Dylan Thomas Prize, the T.S. Eliot Prize, the Sunday Times Short Story Prize, the JCB Prize, the An Post Irish Book Awards, the Betty Trask Award, the Orwell Prize, the Guardian 4th Estate BAME Short Story Prize, the White Review Short Story Prize and the Deborah Rogers Foundation Writers Award.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions should include a covering letter telling us about yourself and the background to the book. In the case of fiction they should consist of the first three chapters or approximately the first fifty pages of the work to a natural break, and a brief synopsis. Non-fiction submissions should take the form of a proposal up to twenty pages in length explaining what the work is about and why you are best placed to write it.
