Jim Carroll was a poet and author from New York City. His most famous work, The Basketball Diaries (1978), was revised from a diary he kept as a teenager. His first book of poetry, Organic Trains, was published in 1967. He went on to publish many more collections, including Book of Nods (1986) and Fear of Dreaming (1993).
